Gold-winning Olympic Champion track cyclist, ANNA MEARES OAM

“Success is not about staying un-defeated. It’s about how you handle defeat – that’s what makes a true champion on the track and off it.”

It is without argument that Anna Meares OAM is considered to be one of the greatest cyclists of all time and it is testament to the courage, dedication and commitment she has displayed so graciously throughout her stellar career. From being the youngest Australian track cyclist to win Olympic gold at the 2004 Olympic Games, to overcoming major life-threatening accident where it was possible she may never ride again, to persevering with incredible tenacity to go on to break even more incredible records, Anna really knows what it takes to seize success. In all, she has 44 medals at Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games level, an Order of Australia, an OAM, and in 2015 she became the first woman to win 11 world track championships when she won the keirin in Yvelines in France. At the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, where she was Team Captain and flagbearer, she became the first Australian athlete to to medal individually at four consecutive Olympics from any sport.

She is Coordinator of the GM International Women’s Council and Chair of the GM Holden Women in STEM (Engineering) Taskforce. In her presentation, Annabelle will share with you key ways in which you can help influence diversity and inclusion within your organisation:
